Studio Day 1 - Drums

After setting up and miking the drums on Friday night, we began our Saturday recording the drums. Walter spend a lot of time tuning the drums meticulously so they could sound as we wanted: BIG!

As some might already know, Walter is the voice of Morito Ergo Sum, but he always have been originally a very experienced drummer, and an extremely good and tight one also! The video below give a small example of his skills, showing him playing one of the very few fast parts that the upcoming Ep will have:

Everything went smoothly as hell, and he finished the 4 songs in just about 3 hours. Tomorrow we will begin recording the guitars, hell yeah!

I leave you with a few more pics from Walter:

What's going on - July 2011

Starting from this Friday (29/7) we will have a busy week ahead. Is it then that we will set up the drums for the recordings, that will begin on Saturday morning.

Everything is pretty much prepared. We even managed to find a violin player in Stockholm that will help us. Our guitars are being adjusted and tweaked by our bassist Harry (one of the best guitar technicians around), and I am even changing my guitar pickup for an optimal sound!

In the meantime I made a lot of progress with the artwork of the Ep. We just need to take some new band photos and then it will be ready. Unfortunately I can't show anything yet, as it is closely related with the title of the Ep, which is the name of the (secret) cover song we  did...

What's going on - June 2011 - New bassist!

This month brings exciting news for the band: we have a new bass player. Unfortunately things didn't worked  out with Alexander, and we wish him very good luck with his other band! In his place comes the ultra-experienced Harry Virtanen. He is the guitar player of the thrash metal band Vörgus, and plays bass in Electric Mayhem, among many others. Apart from being a great guitarist and bassist, he is also Mike Wead's  personal guitar-tech on tour with both Mercyful Fate and King Diamond.

The rehearsals for the pre-production of the Ep are going great, we get tighter every week, and Pablo (Magallanes - Lead Guitar) have already began to deliver some freaking amazing solos! The recordings are scheduled to be done around the end of July - beginning of August, and we are pretty damn excited about it!

Below a picture taken this week during a break in the rehearsal place with the new line-up:

What's going on - May 2011

This week we will finally begin the rehearsals for the Ep that is about to be recorded later this summer. And I think is time to reveal that Mike Wead (Candlemass, Memento Mori, King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, Bibleblack) will be the producer of this release! We are doing all the efforts for this Ep to sound really professional, not only with the production, but also with the songwriting. All I can say is: is going to be slow, is going to be heavy, and is going to be depressive. Just as we like it!

In the meantime our song "I Die, Therefore I am" got a new mixing and this can be heard on the mega free online compilation from Doom Metal Front zine called "Scandinavia", with 48 doom bands from Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark!

Also, the band now has its official Facebook page, for those who don't use the other sites out there.

Just remembering that we are still looking for a drummer! And we also need someone to play the violins for us in the recordings!

What's going on - April 2011 - A band with a plan.

Last Friday we did for the first time a rehearsal with Walter - our singer - on the drums. Being a very experienced drummer, it sounded like he always have played drums on Morito Ergo Sum! He played flawlessly and we sounded tight and heavy as hell! We even tried out some of the new songs and they sounded surprisingly good, having in mind they were being played for the first time by the whole band.

The reason why we decided to rehearse with Walter on the drums is part of our plan to record our upcoming Ep with him being both the singer and the drummer. We have already found someone who is going to do the mixing and mastering, and his name will be announced very soon. The recordings will probably be done in July or August, but is too early right now to talk about a release date.

Our lead guitarist Pablo Magallanes will go on a world tour with Demonical next month, and when he is back, we will start rehearsing for good the new songs with Walter on drums and start to prepare ourselves for the Ep.

What's going on - March 2011

This month we finally got the chance to hear how this new line-up sounds in a rehearsal room. We tested a drummer a few days ago. Sadly it was not the right drummer for us, so we are still on the search.

Anyhow, it was nice to see how good the songs sound with the amps on full throttle! It just made us even more eager to go out and play live!

We have also been invited to be part in a free online compilation from a great Doom Metal Webzine. More details about this will be posted next month. Right now we are re-mixing one of the demo songs, a sort of special gift for them (and for all who likes the band, off course). Basically we are adding some guitars from Pablo, and fixing some small things so the song sounds, hopefully, even better.

What's going on - February 2011

Long time since I wrote the last "what's going on" update. That's due to the fact that there was a lot going on but nothing actually happening.

Apart from the new members, Pablo and Alexander, we've been busy, trying to coordinate our schedules to rehearse, finding a drummer (who make us loose quite a lot of precious time waiting for people that showed interest and then disappeared), and working on the new songs.

These new songs will hopefully be released sometime this year, around summer's end. It's still not clear if they will be included in another demo, or in an Ep. There are four songs right know - 1 older one (that almost got in the I die, therefore I am demo), 2 relatively newer ones, and 1 really interesting cover (that I will keep it as a secret for the moment). They are all in different stages of the writing process, some are basically ready, others are missing small details, as, for example, guitar solos, and others needs vocals and/or lyrics.

The tricky part now is to try to maintain the same level of compositions, as the last demo received a great response. On the Bandcamp page alone it has exceeded 350 downloads in 4 months! This week I will be sending the last Cd's for reviewing. It's another chapter that ends. Then it will be all focus on the new songs and eventual recording of them.

For those interested in having a physical copy of the I die, therefore I am demo, there is still a few Cd's left. Just write me making your order. Only the shipping will be charged.
